Spanning 15 million hectares, CAR’s arable land is among the most fertile in the region. It represents a major opportunity for agricultural expansion as, at present, only 5% of these prime lands are under cultivation. Recognizing the spectacular scope, the proactive Touadéra government has introduced forward-looking initiatives like the Ouham Valley Development Project. Designed to transform agricultural production, the Ouham Valley is set to boost yields by 436% and multiply farm gross margins by a factor of 38 – a scale rarely seen in land-based sectors.
“With such potential, the Central African Republic can become Africa’s breadbasket, producing both food crops and agricultural raw materials for processing. This is truly our vision: a CAR that produces, processes, exports and becomes a strategic transit point for intra-African flows.” – Hervé Ndoba, Minister of Finance.
Beneath the surface, CAR is richly endowed with mineral reserves. Across the country, over 520 mineral deposits have been identified, ranging from critical strategic metals to precious gems. To indicate the location of these deposits, a comprehensive geological map has been created, serving as a clear and useful tool for investments. Further strengthening investor confidence, advanced regulations have been introduced to improve transparency and align sourcing with global standards. The results of such progressive reforms in the mining sector are already visible: CAR’s annual mineral extraction increased more than fivefold, from 857 kg in 2021 to over 5 tonnes by 2025.
“I believe that the Central African Republic has now become one of the most attractive countries in the region – and potentially in the world – for mining, both in terms of the clarity of its regulatory framework and the wealth of its subsoil resources.” – Rufin Benam Beltoungou, Minister of Mines and Geology.
Significant development is also noticeable in the forest-wood sector. With nearly 45% of the territory covered in hardwood species such as mahogany, sipo and iroko, timber remains the country’s flagship export. Bolstered by innovations and reforms undertaken in the course of the NDP, the sector creates tangible improvements in the lives of Central Africans – and in the country’s global economic standing.
As these key sectors are formalizing and gaining strength, CAR’s economy enters a new era of growth. Today, the country stands as an emerging frontier for profitability with ambitions to emerge as one of the top producers and exporters on the continent.
